Throw Out the Lifeline

by patrick mckearn & Linda Gibbs

This album is a gem. Every song leads organically to the next painting an overall picture of joy, acceptance and mysterious faith. Linda Gibbs is an American original and Patrick McKearn's arrangements are uncanny in their recasting of new and old tunes.

ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Patrick McKearn, pianist, composer/arranger, teaching artist and writer has lived in NYC since 1984. In 1991, he met the Lower East Side vocalist Linda Gibbs and began working in little clubs and restaurants around New York. Shortly after hooking up as musicians they became a couple, and continued to play and develop their music for several years.
In March of 1996, Linda was diagnosed with advanced Ovarian Cancer. She underwent the standard treatments and before long, was singing again. ‘Throw Out the Lifeline’ was recorded in late 1999, at a time when her cancer was spreading quickly again. The songs are her gift back to the world, a meditation and celebration of all she believed and loved. They are also, very hip, well arranged covers of a wide range of tunes with excellent playing by some top flight New York musicians.
Since the death of his wife in 2000, Mr. McKearn has continued to perform and work as a Teaching Artist for Lincoln Center Institute in New York. He is currently completing a memoir of the last five years of Linda’s life and preparing a new album of mainly original, jazz based material.
