ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Patti Trimble is a poet and spoken word performer living in California and Sicily. She performs lyric poetry with music for audiences in the US and Europe, and has received many grants for writing and performance. Her voice is a sure voice, mesmerizing, and song-like: a bit like the Beats but closer to lyric and pretty smart. She tells another kind of news: writing about about love, science, trees, bicycles, Jerusalem, volcanoes, insomnia, mergansers, death, rivers, black holes, and a few other things.

Peter Whitehead improvises on many instruments—cello, Chinese Banjo, piano, spike violin, and toy melodian—some of them handcrafted by himself. Peter is a composer, performer, songwriter and instrument builder. He can be heard in performances/compositions for Mikhail Baryshnikov, Susan Marshall & Company, Anna Halprin, Charles Moulton, Sarah Shelton Mann & Contraband, and independent films, including for director Matt Dillon.

Here is one kudo, and more to come soon!:

"With a stand-up cello as the Circles and Patti Trimble's voice our Dantean guide, we find that the road between Truth and Beauty is a narrow one indeed. But with her skilled blend of poesy and music, there's no other journey so worth taking. ITMOTNOTROMLIFMIATW is a Classic Right Now." Poetry Impressario Bob Holman

Here's what Patti wrote in the CD liner notes, beginning with the original "in the Middle" quote:

"In the middle of our life I found myself in a dark wood where the direct way was lost— it is a hard thing to speak of, how wild, harsh, and strong. . . and in order to tell of the good in that place I must tell of the other things I found. " Dante

"Since language began people have been telling each other what is important to know by speaking poems with music. Our world is shaped by language, in the way we talk about things, and it makes sense to me to acknowledge its complexity by writing my experience with curiosity and moment-by-moment investigation.
The poems on this CD are kind of alternative journalism. They tell the news as I know it. Inside each poem—in both the meaning and the sound—there's a tangled wood and there's also a clearing. There is good in that place, and also other things I have found. " Patti Trimble
