Album Notes
"New Tomorrows" was originally conceived in 2008. It was intended to be my debut CD; however, many of other projects and opportunities came to me since its inception, and I always vowed to come back to this recording. I wanted the compositions and arrangements here to be as prominent as the playing itself, reflecting my passion for great classical and Brazilian music as much as great jazz.

In the late 1990's I ran into what became one of my favorite recordings of all time, Charlie Haden and Pat Metheny's, "Beyond the Missouri Sky". I must have listened to that recording over a hundred times. Around the same time I also developed an affinity for the Ron Carter / Jim Hall duets documented on "Alone Together", "Telephone", and "Live At Village West".

Guitarist, Adam Rafferty, and I met on the bandstand in New York City, playing several gigs together since 2002. Rafferty is a world class jazz musician and one of the most renowned solo acoustic fingerstyle guitar players in the world today. In 2008 we decided to record something which launched this daring and adventurous project. It's my homage to the sound of acoustic bass and acoustic guitar and it also offered an opportunity to challenge me compositionally and in arranging for strings. I've been producing records since 1998 and this is by far the most ambitious and rewarding project I've ever done. My wish is that this will become one of the most enjoyable recordings in your collection.

Congratulations Paul on a very sophisticated, thoughtful and calming CD! I’ve listened to it on numerous occasions while cooking and it reminds me of a sensual movie road trip. My favorite song is “what are you doing for the rest of your life?” a very moving arrangement. And who knew that a bass could be so romantic & dreammy that it made we want to cry! Bravo Paul, and keep up the great work-looking forward to hearing more...KIM CAMERON, VOCALIST
