ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Paul Bisaccia has performed concerts on four continents, John Thomas on three. Between them they bring decades of experience playing piano in diverse American musical genres to this exciting and epic recording of American music from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This full-length recording features George Gershwin’s sweeping and elegant melodies, raucous rags, Scott Joplin’s and Eubie Blake’s quirky rhythms, Irving Berlin’s exuberant tunes, John Philip Sousa’s rousing marches, Louis Moreau Gottschalk’s tantalizing and exotic showpieces, and John Thomas’ original idiomatic compositions, all combined into a delightful potpourri of pop from another era.

Paul Bisaccia made his European debut at the age of seventeen. He graduated from The Hartt School summa cum laude and first in his class. He was the first pianist to record George Gershwin’s complete piano solo music, and he performed the composer’s “Rhapsody in Blue” in inauguration ceremonies for the new theater on the site of Aeolian Hall in New York City, where Gershwin first played his legendary masterpiece. His first PBS television show "Gershwin by Bisaccia" has been seen by millions and was dubbed into Mandarin Chinese for broadcast in Asia. Michael Feinstein calls "Paul Bisaccia and the Great American Piano", his second PBS program, “imaginative, fun, well played and totally satisfying.” Paul’s third television show, "Chopin by Bisaccia", is available on his DVD "Bisaccia on Television!" The Hartt School honored Paul with the “Alumnus of the Year” award, the Connecticut governor proclaimed “Paul Bisaccia Day” in that state, and PBS celebrated the event with a rebroadcast of Paul’s programs. He has been a guest lecturer at Harvard University. Many of his television and film clips can be seen on YouTube. His is the author of "Piano Player: Memoir and Master Class". Paul has a discography of 20 CDs. He plays large segments of the classic repertoire, including Liszt and Chopin, as well as the “Great American Piano”. paulbisaccia.com

John Thomas is a composer, pianist, music director, actor, photographer, writer and event producer. He composed "Pure PolyESTHER: a biblical burlesque" (with Abe Rybeck) and music for the theater productions of "Camille", "The Ash Girl" and "A Perfect Ganesh". He wrote and performed the solo show "Spontaneous Me: A Night with Walt Whitman", for which he also composed an original music score. He was music director for "Hair", "Cabaret", "The Wild Party", "Working", "Candide", and other shows. He portrayed Manny the pianist in the Maria Callas story "Master Class"; Cosme McMoon, Florence Foster Jenkin’s flamboyant pianist, in "Souvenir"; Mashkan, the Viennese vocal coach, in "Old Wicked Songs"; and Tevye in "Fiddler on the Roof". He has produced Great Music on Sundays @5, Celebration of Life, and WorldFest in Provincetown MA. His music is featured in films, and his photographs have been exhibited in Provincetown’s museums and the Berta Walker Gallery. His 2007 compact disc of original music is titled "Composing Myself". His 2015 recording "Look to the Stars" with tenor Christopher Sidoli features art songs about the night, stars, moon, water, and nature. John’s music runs a wide gamut of styles: classical, New Orleans, Broadway, rhythm & blues, Balkan, Latin and more. johnwthomas.com
