Finnerty's Banjo Ditties

by Paul Finnerty

After hearing Israel Kamakawiwo’ole play Hawaiian music, I was inspired to write some tunes for my banjo and record as a string band. This is for lovers of the banjo a much maligned instrument.

ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
I have been playing banjo in traditional New Orleans jazz bands for most of my life and still do with Geoff Bull's band.
I bought a Hawaiian music album for my wife and the music reminded me of the string bands that used to be around when I was a child. I have recorded lots of albums playing guitar, either using Pat Powell as my singer or just as instrumentals.
It dawned on me that I should write an album for the banjo and record it as a string band using ukulele, guitar and banjo as the front line instead of the horns. My banjo is a tenor banjo, so there is no finger picking, which is a completly different style on it's own. I hope you enjoy my efforts, Paul.
