Emptying the Attic

by Paul Kavanagh

The pieces on this album can be best described as semi-improvisational. Some were written down as dots on paper, but more often the songs came together as a group of melodic themes that were originally the product of free-form improvisation.

ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
The pieces on this album can be best described as semi-improvisational. There are some that were written down as dots on paper, but more often the songs came together as a group of melodic themes that were originally the product of free-form improvisation. The improvisations themselves may have been based on a feeling, a situation, an image, or some musical ideas that I am toying with.

All songs were recorded at York University's recital hall, on a Kawai Concert Grand piano. It was a project to finalize and finish some material that had been rolling around in my head for some time. Thus the album title "Emptying the Attic". Clearing out space for new ideas, new projects. The specific songs that are included in "Emptying the Attic" were the versions that chosen amongst many.

I hope you enjoy listening to this music as much as I enjoyed finding it.

Your truly,

Paul Kavanagh
