Album Notes
"Paul Maged is a hell of a wordsmith. On Maged’s latest record Diamonds & Demons, he embeds a sense of humor in his sharp observation of the world. From rampant narcissism to war, Maged’s voice is the Roger Daltrey (the streamlined Tommy version) of now…if he had the wicked wit of Keith Moon and the evangelism of Elvis Costello. The whole of Diamonds & Demons is craftily light considering the weight of the messaging. Maged can deliver some heavy thoughts while keeping it catchy as is noted on “Last Days” and “Human Warfare” or “My Dear Love.” - Scallywag album review

“Diamonds and Demons” makes us look at ourselves in an entirely different way. I love the way Maged takes the music and can express exactly what each and every one of us has experienced at some point in our lives. Maged pulls on real life situations to express the real life issues we face every day. He takes the hard stuff, the tough stuff and turns it into a musical sound bite that challenges us to face up to what society is doing to itself. He takes the personal side of tragedy and turns it into a inspiration to overcome." - Nashville Music Guide

"Paul Maged proves rock ‘n’ roll isn’t dead; it just needed a reason to get out of bed in the morning." - Popdose

Recording artist and songwriter Paul Maged is excited to announce the release of his sophomore album, "Diamonds & Demons", the highly anticipated follow up to his debut record, "In My Time". Diamonds & Demons is produced by Multi-Platinum Producer Sean Gill.

Maged's new music announces an exciting and uncompromising voice in Alternative Rock. His songs have depth and explore concepts, social issues and universal themes such as climate change, human warfare, religion and today’s evolving society, that are very passionate to Maged, creating a unique vision through his music.

In 2011, while vacationing in Cape Cod, Maged began a labor of love, writing the songs to his follow up album, Diamonds & Demons. The first song written for the album was called "Images" and it set the tone literally and metaphorically for what was to follow. Musically inspired by the sounds of the current Indie scene as well as Maged's own influences such as Pearl Jam, Green Day, Billy Joel, Elvis Costello and R.E.M., the songs exude an eclectic diversity. Lyrically they are brutally honest; an intense exploration of modern day society and Maged's own struggles and questions within it, creating a conceptual feel that builds throughout the album. The vocals are delivered with urgency and edge, breathing story, life and soul into every piece.

Paul Maged is an artist for a new age, having taken the common definition of a Singer-Songwriter and blown it away, creating his own sound infused with punk, grunge, classic rock, indie pop and balladeer, in the form of an Alternative Rock Artist.

Rock Music With A Social Conscience
Diamonds & Demons is the type of album that Bruce Springsteen or Elvis Costello would write in their youthful primes. Colored with thoughtful social commentary and biting sarcasm, Diamonds & Demons written by Paul Maged and produced by Sean Gill, not only touches on important topics relevant in today's society but it explores them with a dynamic and strong point of view. The lead single and opening track off the record Look At Me, sets the tone for what's to follow. Look At Me bites down on the elitists of today's society such as Miss Sunshine who's married into money and so full of herself she won't acknowledge anyone else, and Johnny from Wall Street who has no qualms destroying someone’s family if it makes him rich. The social commentary continues on songs such as Cause & Effect and Human Warfare, the latter of which is a riff filled punk/grunge delight as Maged rips such lyrics as "Evolution, revolution, only one of us will live. I will fight for those with less while you will pray to God to bless." In the rocking Cause & Effect, Maged sings "Fight the psychos, fight for the poor. Fight the politicians own holy wars. Fight the apathy for those who came before." It is lyrics like these, thought provoking and devoid of pretension that makes Maged's lyrics relatable.
Maged proves that he's no one trick pony as the album's second half veers toward a more singer-songwriter style and shows his songwriting diversity. Maged lightens up on Paradise Island, the most fun song on the album, a fast pop/rock tune with a Jimmy Buffet infused reggae chorus complete with singing Seagulls added on for effect. My Dear Love finds Maged thankful for the "Angel on my soul" and Somber Song, a haunting piano ballad about loss of a loved one, are two wonderful tracks. Annastasia, with its folk/rock vibe and added accordion reminds one of a young Ryan Adams. Maged rocks again near the end of the album and shows his Green Day meets Pearl Jam influences on Not Complicated, a song solely devoted to Climate Change. It is another standout on the record as Maged attacks the deniers with biting commentary and all the pertinent talking points. It is rather fitting that the album's last full song is just Maged and his piano. Recalling a young Billy Joel, Maged sings on 64th & 1st, "When I was young I beloved in God and Santa Claus. I thought wrestling was real, well isn't it?" It is his lyrical style, biting and pointed, yet still curious and questioning things that we all question, that makes this album a must listen.
Diamonds & Demons is an in your face modern rock record that also eases up on the brakes enough to let you breathe and catch up with everything that Maged is throwing at you. This is one of the strongest Indie albums I have reviewed in a long time and I hope that music and rock fans hear this album because it proves that rock is still alive and doing very well. – Sam Phesting, CEO Samethmusic
