Album Notes
Thanks for finding my CD, "Sand Between My Toes". The idea for recording a CD in this style came to me after writing the title song. I wanted to create a CD where every song was recorded in a studio and played from beginning to end, without any overdubs or vocal tuning, and without many effects. It took me 4 years to record all of the songs, writing (and rewriting them at times) and this required a very patient studio owner and engineer. I found that in John "Loma" Hill, at Loma Ranch Studios in Fredericksburg, Texas.

After recording the songs, I needed another patient engineer to work with me on the mixing and mastering of the tracks, because sometimes up to four microphones were used to record one track! The placement of the microphones, type of microphone, and the "bleed" from one microphone to another made it very difficult to isolate the guitar and vocal, sometimes impossible to separate. I knew one guy who was an expert at this, my old friend Fred Remmert, former owner of Cedar Creek Studios in Austin, Texas. He mixed and mastered the Dixie Chicks Grammy Award winning album and I knew if anyone could manage it, he could.

Next, I needed a very meticulous photographer and designer to help me design the CD packaging. We used a painting by Meghan Niven as well as one of my own to create a beautiful CD cover and 20 page booklet that contains not only handwritten lyrics, but my interpretation of what the song meant to me. Barclay Wright, my nephew, was there for me to help pull this off in a magnificent way! It was his idea that I write out all of the lyrics and my interpretations.

When you listen to the CD, you may think of other artists, more famous ones, and I graciously thank them for their influence. Among the many influences, are Charlie Haden, Neil Young, Carlos Jobim, George Harrison, Lucinda Williams, Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, Steve Forbert, Rodney Crowell, Joni Mitchell, John Lennon, David Crosby, Louis Armstrong, Stephen Stills, Don Williams, Pete Townsend, and so many others. too many to name. I'm sure you will hear reflections of some of these artists/musicians in my music. I would send them all a CD and a thank you note if I could!

So, please enjoy the music and I hope to hear from you! Paul Mitchell Wright,

Personal Masterpiece
Paul Wright's Sand Between My Toes is a compilation of beautiful original songs placed on the cd in the order they were written over the span of a few years. The acoustic guitar, his voice, and the harmonica come together in a raw and elegant way to communicate a very personal story. The booklet is a masterpiece in itself with beautiful artwork, handwritten lyrics, and personal notes by Paul about each song. The cd is a beauty.

love it.
Spare, lyrical, less is more here. Beautiful songs, well written and performed, makes you hold still
and gaze off into space. It takes you somewhere. Reminds me of what I love
about Cat Stevens, John Prine, and of course, Paul Wright.
