Album Notes
Born at the old Touro Hospital in New Orleans, Paul Soniat is the son of a North Louisiana school teacher and a New Orleans Frenchman whose family had been in the city since 1727. Paul grew up in Uptown New Orleans on the street that bears his family name. For the past 23 years he has been directing the efforts to turn an old forgotten garden into one of the country's premier Botanical Gardens. A self taught piano player, Paul has absorbed the sights, sounds, and flavor of New Orleans. The CD at first listen is immediately likable. His humor, insight, and ability to capture the essence of his hometown will become evident when you listen to his music. In his title track,"Born in New Orleans", he writes,"couldn't write this song if I wasn't born in New Orleans". Believe me, that's an honest assessment.

Although some of his songs were written many years ago, Born in New Orleans is Paul's debut album. He has performed on numerous occasions for family and friends, but gave his first public performance last year. That performance was a tremendous success. So overwhelmed by the positive response, the demand for his CD was created. Thus began the journey to release "Born in New Orleans". So after years of private performances,Paul is excited about the opportunity to share his music with the world.

"One thing that has made me proud of this CD,says Paul,is that in asking five different people what their favorite song is, I may get five different answers. As a songwriter it is a wonderful feeling to know that I was able to reach different people in many different ways with my music."

Gave it to friends for Christmas. They loved it!
We have just returned home after being in Alabama for 4 months. I heard about the CD on WWL (webcast) and had to order it for our friends for Christmas. They loved it!

Great New Orleans Classic
This was added to my Mardi Gras rotation at Lee's Circle this year. Everyone loved it!

Very good--love the jazzy tunes!
My favorite is "Born In New Orleans"; I also like "Jazz Fest" and "Old Man". This CD captures the essence of New Orleans culture!

He is a GENIOUS! What a great jazz CD to listen too.
Paul Soniat is a GENIOUS, what a great CD to listen too! My kids even enjoy listening to it as well, they always say put on the New Orleans song Mommy.

One for the NOLAphiles
NOLA is one of my favourite places and this album is true New Orleans in many ways. The lyrics are excellent and are evocative for those who live there as well as those who wish they did. Unfortunately, it loses a star for me because the melodies are a bit repetetive and the voice not so good. Still a few of these songs have found their way onto my MP3 player because I couldn't resist the images they wove.

The Best Naturally Nawlins music I ever heard.
I heard the song on WWL and it brought tears of joy. He describes how only a native New Orleanian can feel. I bought one for myself and my son who loves Jazz music. Great Jazz music Paul. God Bless you

Couldn't wait to hear it, love every song
Ditto, glad I was born in N.O. too, really appreciate your talent and sure can relate to all the words and music. Keep all those CDs coming.

Why I Came Home
In this album and Paul's other one, "Below the Water Line" Paul does a super job of capturing the spirit, fun, resolve and attitude that is NEW ORLEANS.
