Guest House

by Pawl

With Guest House PAWL's songs received a classic pop arrangement: Piano, organ, guitar, bass, drums, and violin! Call it "cinematic pop" -- songs that tell stories and are, at once, catchy, fun, and at times, serious- but never whiny. Appeals to all ages.

Album Notes
PAWL --Guest House". This 6 song album was PAWL's first solo record recorded in an actual studio. With the help of friends, PAWL picked 6 songs from his backlog of 40+ songs, that would appeal most to the people. Instead of keyboards taking the lead, PAWL turned to percussion, layered with guitar, bass, violin, and backing vocals. Recorded quickly over 4 weekends, the result is PAWL's most realized release to date. PAWL would describe it as "cinematic pop" songs that tell stories and are, at once, catchy, fun, and at times, serious- but never whiny. There is an undeniable jazz influence as PAWL grew up around jazz musicians and constantly attended jazz shows throughout his life- just about as much as he attended rock, punk, and hip hop shows.
Arrangement inspired as much by indie pop/rock as Burt Bacharach, Guest House doesn't try to copy the newest trends in independent or popular music; it delivers its own unique combination of classic and modern sounds. PAWL's songwriting draws inspiration from all over the map: from the late Johnny Cash, Elliott Smith, and Nick Drake -- to modern artists such as the Sea and Cake, Beck, Spoon, and Broken Social Scene. For the price of an extra fancy coffee, buy this album- you won't be disappointed.
