"With her deceptively fragile, almost childlike voice, she could pass as a third
McGarrigle sister."
Glasgow Herald (Scotland)
"Fil Campbell ... has been likened to a lot of female performers, but can be compared
to none. She has a unique voice and a knack of making every song her own."
The Word (Ireland)
The Light Beyond the Woods was the first recording from Co. Fermanagh singer Fil
Campbell (the spelling of her name was subsequently changed from Phil to the Irish
Fil when her second album was released by Round Tower Records).
From Belleek in Northern Ireland, Fil has had a life long affair with music and first
sang on stage at the age of 5. This album was recorded in 1992 in Spring Studios in
Rostrevor and featured some of the top session musicians from the North of Ireland
including Kieran Goss on guitar and represented a cross section of the music Fil
enjoyed singing at the time. It includes songs by the McGarrigle Sisters, Leonard
Cohen, Stan Rogers and Bill Staines.
"A vivacious, bubbly, gentle, entertaining woman is the most apt description for Fil
Campbell."
The Lobby, Cork, (Ireland)
