Album Notes
"Stars & Cars CD features a thoroughly impressive mix of jazz and rock to create a bona fide fusion of modern jazz guitar styles." - Robert Silverstein MUSIC WEB EXPRESS 3000

New York Guitarist Perry Smith releases "Stars and Cars" representing his debut album as a leader. The music, all written and arranged by Perry, is an impressive outing for the young award winning composer. His music is marked by a genre blending style that combines jazz with rock.

The opening track, "Psychological Jujitsu" sets the mood as it takes the listener on a journey from a medium tempo to a fast virtuosic guitar solo. As one of the most dynamic tracks on the album, this song shows Perry's ability to produce a tightly, well crafted composition that uses improvisation as a compositional technique.

Further into the album is the piece "Songbird." This ballad with a touching melody was chosen for the finals of the 2007 International Songwriting Competition. The memorable composition is given the perfect treatment from a West Coast - East Coast band featuring Sam Minaie (bass), Matt Politano (piano) and Dan Schnelle (drums).

The recording's title track, "Stars and Cars" is inspired by Perry's time spent in Los Angeles. The song attractively combines the harmonic sense of jazz with the driving rhythms of rock and roll.
