Sea of Tranquility

by Pete Downes

Features layers of improvised acoustic and electric guitars supported with touches of ambient keyboards to create 'seas' of trance-like music. Deeply spiritual in places, refreshingly natural in others. Ideal for meditation, relaxation or background.

Album Notes
"An exquisite album, rich and evocative, featuring the superb, soft and fluid textural guitar compositions of Pete Downes. This vibrant and sensual album evokes a myriad of relaxing and romantic moods."
Quote from Clifford White (UK's best selling New Age artist).

Note from Pete Downes
This album came about thanks to developments in recording technology. With hard disk recording, I could do something I always wanted to try: pure improvisation in layers. The result on the majority of these tracks is a structured improvisation which was arranged by adding and removing elements of the improvised take. Autumn and Selene are the only compositions in the regular sense. All others, including the collaborations, are improvised compositions, some played to a tempo guide, some totally free but still within harmonic and melodic structures (not free in a free jazz sense).
Having said this, I am very happy with the resulting music . I wanted to give it spirit and heart and leave it to you to decide if I've succeeded.

Uniquely fluid flow of superb guitar improv
I currently own over 1200 music CD's. This is definitely in the top 5!! I enjoy New Age, instrumentals and Ambient most--this album is relaxing and fresh. Even on low volume in a dark or dimly lighted room, the flow of mellow yet clear guitar reaches out and washes over you. This album confirms for me the unique power of a guitar to touch your heart, and calm the troubled soul.
