ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
These songs evoke a romantic, slightly retro urban vision. Though music doesn't lend itself to easy summaries, in some way this album evokes the 1945-1960 era. That musical period saw the birth of bebop, hard bop, and saw Afro-Cuban and Bossa Nova becoming widespread.

I am too young (hah!) to say I came of age in the 50s, but I know people who did, drawn to the world of Parker, Kerouac, Miles, Manteca, Gilberto and Coltrane - set to a backdrop of Eisenhower, Sinatra, Marilyn, Elvis, Jackie Gleason and Rosa Parks.

Personnel: Oscar Feldman, alto sax on Memories of Times Square, Barrios en el Barrio and Jeffrey Meets Art. Michael Webster, tenor sax on Two Orchestras, Air Cooled, Visao do Bahia, Blackbird and Amsterdam Avenue by Moonlight. George Hooks, all drums and percussion. Flute and baritone sax: Jon Willinger. Trumpet: Steve Thomas. Glenway Fripp, piano on Blackbird, Two Orchestras, Air Cooled, Visao do Bahia and Amsterdam Avenue by Moonlight. Nanae Atarashi: piano on Memories of Times Square, Barrios en el Barrio and Jeffrey Meets Art. Art Guevarra, electric bass. Mark Hagan: acoustic bass.
