Album Notes
This is my debut solo album! After a 16-year orchestra teaching career and being named the 2014 Oklahoma Teacher of the year, I resigned from the classroom in 2017 and immediately found a lot of creative space to start writing songs. I recorded all of the tracks on this album (except for the drums), including the guitar, vocals, violin, viola, cello, upright bass, electric guitar, electric bass, piano, keyboard synth, drum programming, harmonica, accordion, banjo, and mandolin. It's all self-produced, engineered, mixed, and mastered. I know that outside help is recommended, especially for feedback in such a big undertaking, but I took on the whole project myself mainly because I was incredibly curious about the entire process. And I really enjoy stretching my creative horizons. This task for sure fit that bill!

My favorite track is "The Thief of Time," inspired by the wish for more time - with loved ones, with my creations and work, and with those that were taken from us too soon. This track was also the last one written and was actually not intended to be part of the original album. Some of the most personal tracks are "That's Not All" and "Please Find Me." The former is a love song to my wife, and still I cry nearly every time I hear or perform it. The latter is also a deeply personal reflection on how I live my life as a father. It continues to be intense and emotional each time I hear it. "Leaving" has been one of the most well-received tracks on the album, with a great Americana "acoustic-pop" sound to it. And the title track, "I Have a Dream," offers an incredible uplifting surprise in its production.

If you enjoy love songs, then this album is for you. I am greatly influenced by the finger-style guitar and ballad vocal styles of Jim Croce and James Taylor. Of all the songs I perform, I'd say nearly 75% of the songs I sing are slow and mid-tempo love songs. I just love those melodies! If you want to skip straight to the love songs on this album, they are: That's Not All, I Must, Love Especially, For Life, Solitude, and A Sense of Home. The last two are 1) a love song to God, and 2) a love song to my childhood home, a farm south of Waukomis, Oklahoma. "Andrew's Song" was one of the early inspirations to actually make an album, and My aim was to create a simple folk song, one that we could all sit around the porch and play. Hence the guitar, banjo, mandolin, fiddle, bass, and accordion - nearly one of everything! Finally, "Open Up" is inspired by several young friends who confided in me their challenge in coming out as gay to their parents. Out of context, I admit it can be a bit confusing, but I know it has spoken volumes to those friends.

My musical style has been described as a "...warmth and genuine love of music - he can engage with grannies to grandchildren!" And my vocals are often described as mesmerizing to anyone from age one to 100. Thank you for listening!
