Album Notes
30 years ago in the Site 2 refugee camp on the Thai/Cambodian border, a French art teacher started teaching drawing as a form of therapy to the children traumatized by the years-long American bombing campaign and Cambodia's civil war and its aftermath. Phare Ponleu Selpak, or "beacon of the arts", is the school that was founded in 1994 by that teacher and 9 of her students when the group returned to the Cambodian city of Battambang after the cessation of the Site 2 camp. Their initial purpose was to continue the art therapy and at the same time bring art and culture back to a country whose artists were killed and all forms of culture destroyed by the Khmer Rouge regime. Today, Phare Ponleu Selpak has 1200 students enrolled receiving general education (K - 12) as well as training in visual arts, animation, theater, music and circus arts. The school also provides social services to its extremely impoverished and vulnerable student body and their families. Phare, the Cambodian Circus is possibly its most well-known creation. With nightly shows in the Cambodian tourist hub of Siem Reap, Phare, the Cambodian Circus is consistently the #1 entertainment attraction in Siem Reap.

Set in a grungy Phnom Penh bar, "Khmer Metal" is an edgy look at modern Cambodian night life. The score is provided by the bar's house band and brings heavy metal, Cambodian pop, hip hop and traditional Cambodian music together in an exciting combination that is "Khmer Metal." .
