Album Notes
Inspired by Springsteen, U2, and Oasis, Phil has the energy of Bruce, the passion of Bono, and none of the attitude of Oasis' Gallagher brothers (well, usually...).

Like most kids, when Phil was in junior high school he ignored his mom when she encouraged him to take music lessons. Instead, the hard-working, dynamic singer/songwriter's music career began in college. Phil made a local name for himself creating, fronting, and engineering the Boston band Riverside Train, as well as through his solo acoustic performances.

While with his former band Riverside Train, Ayoub (pronounced A-yoob) amassed a solid, loyal fan base, with shows at some of the most well-known and popular Boston and New England live music venues.

When he eventually brought Riverside Train to its final stop, Ayoub walked away armed with experience, new friends, a growing mailing list of fans, and over 40 acoustic demo songs. He answered an ad online from a producer looking for new talent to work with and that producer turned out to be Tim Bradshaw. Bradshaw has been the keyboard and guitar player for David Gray since the late 1990's, including playing on Gray's breakthrough record White Ladder and hit song "Babylon." Bradshaw liked Ayoub's demos and signed on to produce his solo record.

The result of the collaboration is Schoolbus Window Paper Heart, the debut disc from Phil Ayoub, which consists of 12 brand new tracks written or co-written by Ayoub. The record also features the drumming of Ed Toth, formerly of Vertical Horizon ("Everything You Want," "You're A God") and currently with the Doobie Brothers.

Fantastic listen! It's on constantly now!
I haven't stopped listening to this CD since I got it five days ago - it's that good! I had a chance to interview Phil about the music on this disc, which you can hear starting September 16th at Give it a listen, and hear for yourself how good this disc really is!

Rock and Storytelling
I think Ayoub combines a great rock sound with great stories that make his music fun to listen to. I especially like song #3 (Lying and Stealing) as it epitomizes this combination. This CD is definitely worth a listen if you are looking to try out a new, up and coming artist.

Dylanesque observations on life, love and lust
Phil has a way of taking the human condition and using metaphor to bring the struggles of all humanity into sharp relief. There are only 5 songwriters I'd take with me to a desert island: Bob Dylan, Tom Waits, Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Costello and Phil Ayoub. The lyrics say it better than I ever could: "If you let me be your friendly neighbor / I will be your ice cream man," or "I wanna save the day / But I lost my bloody cape / Trying still to fly." Buy this CD now!

the hooks'll keep you listening ...
This is a fun album, front to back. Smart lyrics, great stories, and hooks that keep you humming long after the cd has played through. Ayoub shows his range from Carnival Days to Goodnight Kiss -- so many different sounds to enjoy on this debut. I haven't taken this album out of my cd player for weeks -- I feel like I hear something new every time I listen. Great album and definitely worth a listen.

Phil Ayoub, whose smart lyrics and accessible tunes have radio-friendly stamped on their backsides and whose virtuosity ought to guarantee consideration at next year’s Boston Music Awards. Ayoub’s first solo release, ‘Schoolbus Window Paper Heart,’ is filled with radio-friendly grooves and themes that range from the 9-11 nightmare to carefree romance....[Previous band] Riverside Train’s run stopped somewhere short of major music industry success for Ayoub. ‘Schoolbus Window Paper Heart’ could change all that. -12/15/05
