Album Notes

Touchdown! Slam dunk! Grand slam! The Golden Greek song about Harry Agganis is a winner! The lyrics are of great purity. They capture the essence of Harry Agganis' life. That is what Nick Tisiotis wrote. about my song the Golden Greek. Nick and Andy Debilis are co-authors of the first wonderful book about Harry called Harry Agganis, "the Golden Greek": An All American Story. This book builds the foundation upon what is later written by others. It was an incredibly work ! Clearly, their book truly inspired me to write my song

THE GOLDEN GREEK was golden on the sports field and pure gold in the way he lived his life. This college football and baseball All American and College Hall of Famer and Boston Red Sox Star died at barely 26. His death stunned the nation's sports world. This song is a tribute to the man who touched so many hearts. Although he died in June of 1955, his memory is perpetuated by those still living who loved him and who were mesmerized by his athletic ability and even more his sterling life.

Who was Harry Agganis the Golden Greek? Why does his memory still glow like an Olympic Flame? What other athlete in American history have had two wonderful books written about him the previously mentioned Harry Agganis, "the Golden Greek": An All American Story and the latest 2015 book by Richard A. Johnson Unfinished Odyssey The Life and legend of Harry Agganis is also brilliant in perpetuating Harry's memory.

Furthermore there are two great documentaries The Golden Greek: The Harry Agganis Story (2010) features Olympia Dukakis actress narrating and also the famous sports announcer Curt Gowdy and Hall of Famer Ted Williams and Boston Red Sox star Johnny Pesky. The other documentary more comprehensive then the first is the marvelous Agganis:The Golden Greek - Excellence to the End (2012 beautifully chronicles his life. The two Executive Producers are Michael the nephew of Harry Agganis and Greg Agganis Michael's son. The writer is Clark Booth.

How many sports heroes have foundations in their memory? The Agganis Foundation named for the him was founded in 1955 shortly after Harry Agganis died from a pulmonary embolism at the age of 26. The Mission of the foundation is to provide college scholarships to deserving student athletes. nearly $1,500,000 has been awarded. His memory continues to glow. The Agganis All Star Classics, a series of high school all star games in softball, baseball, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's basketball are football are played annually in honor of his life.

Boston University has named their major sports arena after him. The celebrates him with their Agganis Sports Complex. Camp Lejeune named a softball field after him. The Greek Orthodox Church throughout North and South America held ceremonies in his honor where nearly 50,000 people attended according to Nick Tsiotis and Andy Dabilis' book.

The United States Marine Corps dedicated a softball field at Camp Lejeune in memory of Marine Harry Agganis.
There is so much more to tell of Harry Agganis's life. My song The Golden Greek is a small contribution to helping perpetuate his memory and recounts some basic facts not recounted here
