Album Notes
phil common – Born in NYC to a union leader and Juilliard graduate phil was steeped in music and the fight to understand people and the problems that we face.

At a young age phil began to write music and philosophy, his first ideas were centered on the concept that almost everything about life is the same for all things and that the differences are only a tiny part of the world we share. This philosophy he called commonhaüs.

Taking these ideas to his music he created the group commonhaüs and played NYC and Chicago throughout the early nineties. During this time touring the Midwest and meeting musicians from all walks of life, phil was finding inspiration to be the musician he is today.

Now on a solo project, phil has a new freedom to create music from his heart, delivering an eclectic mix of gritty, thoughtful songs. phil has found his voice in his ‘Commonsongs’

You will hear love and pain, suffering and joy in the wide range of styles and deep lyrical content that phil crafts. His mind seems to find the way people see themselves and each other. He paints many pictures of life, sometimes sad, sometimes bursting with joy but always with a view to the common bonds that tie us all together in this great adventure we all share.

– “I write about life and the relationships we all share, through many different eyes.” –
