Album Notes
PreFab International Productions are pleased to announce an instrumental recording by Phil Gammage—\"Tracks of Sound\". Nine original instrumental songs composed by guitarist Gammage and collaborators plus one cover (a version of Teddy Edwards \"L.A. After Dark\" that drips noir)—this edgy jazz features some of the best young jazz talent currently on the downtown New York scene. Think crime jazz with latin and lounge elements.

Here is a track listing along with notes for each song:

1. Clash by Night
An uptempo modernistic take on 50’s crime jazz. Suspense and danger

2. After Dark
The Teddy Edwards classic here reworked. This one drips with moodiness.

3. Montreal in December
A swingin’ tribute to the Quebec city. For all updated Rat Packers.

4. Another’s Weather
A journey to nowhere with a hypnotic melody. Features a blistering
Gammage guitar solo.

5. Pleasant Avenue
A romantic and slow walk down this avenue is sure to bring a smile to
her face.

6. Food For Thought
Contemplation. Depth of perception. A midtempo drama with a killer
Ben McGuire sax solo.

7. The Green Room
Upbeat feel with a snappy groove. The Green room is a happy room for
all to visit.

8. Nueva York
Latinesque beat with an unforgetable melody. Great vibraphone and guitar.

9. In a Scarlet Way
Angular, jagged, and pensive this one features some awesome vocal
treatments a la Ima Sumac...

10. General’s Theme
A hauntingly surreal vision. Some sort of dream that ends at midnight.

Phil Gammage has been one of the most critically acclaimed rock and jazz guitarists for the past two decades. His compositions and playing have helped define the “downtown” New York music style that has emerged in recent years. He has released several recordings as a band leader under his own name on both American and European labels. In addition he has performed with the popular cult band Certain General off and on since 1980. He performs on several of the band\'s recordings (including France\'s 1985 rock “album of the year” November’s Heat) and has toured internationally with the group.
