Album Notes
Phil Soussan, bass player, has worked with many artists including Ozzy Osbourne, Jimmy Page, Toto, Billy Idol, Vince Neil, John Waite, Steve Lukather, Edgar Winter and Richie Kotzen. During those times he was also active in writing songs for them, most notable, Ozzy's biggest hit single "SHOT IN THE DARK".
At this time he has released his debut solo CD entitled "VIBRATE"; a collection of 12 songs written over the last couple of years that he has been recording this since February 2005. Featuring many of the musicians that he has had the pleasure of working with such as Simon Phillips, Gregg Bissonette, Steve Lukather, David Paich, Richie Kotzen and others. The album represents a cross section of the styles that Phil has become known for. Memorable melodies and hook production ideas make this a record of songs that people seem to retain in their heads.

"I chose the title VIBRATE because that is what I would like to describe happening when people hear the record. I hope that the sentiments that I felt when I wrote the songs will resonate the same feelings in the listeners. I would like people to relate to these stories based on my experiences. If that happens then I feel I will have done what I set out to do! When I look to the audience I want to see people react to the songs; they may be affected by them or they may not relate them but I want them to feel something! I think of my music as being provocative in that respect!"

In recent years Phil has also carved a reputation for himself in the world of production and mixing and this album was one that was completely recorded and mixed by Phil. Despite the challenge of trying to remain objective it is something that he has become extremely proud of.

The cover artwork is in the form of a multi panel Digipack and includes a 12 page booklet of lyrics and is something that Phil remains passionate about. "I miss album covers, I miss reading through all the notes; most CD covers seem to be so basic these days. We spent a lot of time and effort to make this a wonderful item reminiscent of some of the great albums that I collected and was inspired by."

Classy production and intelligent hooks, it's all about the vibe!
VIBRATE [Puss In Blue, 2006]
by Will Minting

For those of you who haven't yet heard it, I think many of you will enjoy Phil Soussan's Vibrate CD, featuring Steve Lukather, Ritchie Kotzen, Gregg Bissonette, Simon Phillips, David Paich, Steve Porcaro and other LA rock greats!

Phil Soussan is of course known for his time as bass player for Ozzy Osbourne (for whom he wrote the hit "Shot in the Dark"), Billy Idol, Ritchie Kotzen, Steve Lukather's band, Jimmy Page, John Waite and many others with whom you may have seen him perform during international tours during the last 20 years. In more recent years, Phil has also become a respected producer, with production credits on an array of top-quality CD's and DVD's. Phil's talents for strong melodies and catchy hooks are prevalent throughtout the Vibrate CD.

As well as being one of THE nicest guys in rock n' roll, London-born Phil Soussan is also an accomplished guitarist and vocalist, as the Vibrate CD demonstrates in abundance. With crisp & clean production techniques, recorded at both his own studio and at Simon Phillips' Phantom Studios in Los Angeles, Vibrate includes a mix of Gabriel-esque acoustic rock (Elderberry Tree) with some hard-rocking and funky tunes (Friend By My Side) featuring Phil's distinctive - and distinguished - bass playing. Phil's influences include U2, David Bowie, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Peter Gabriel, Beatles, Tom Petty, Aimee Mann, XTC, Seal, Toto, John Waite, Johnny Hallyday, Jimmy Page, Ozzy Osbourne, Billy Idol, Vince Neil, Steve Lukather, Richie Kotzen, Edgar Winter - and the class shines through. Vibrate is a "keeper".

With clever lyrics and thoughtfully considered continuity, I'd suggest that Vibrate is one of the more intelligent and purposeful new albums of the last couple of years. The refreshing clean sounds are truly a pleasure yet there's more than enough "rawk" to satisfy old habits! It's all about the vibe!

I strongly recommend this CD, especially to Journey, Toto, Pink Floyd & Peter Gabriel fans!

Angel....AG in UK

A sensation of beautiful written lyrics and the final touch through the music combining the two together into a little story which sends shivers down the spine beginning with 'Human Race' to 'Open your Eyes'...over to 'Friends by my Side', passing the 'Elderberry Tree' towards 'in America'...oh and putting a 'Smile' on your face after 'No Regrets'....then 'Killing Time' with realization of as 'Long as you Live'...been 'Haunted' toward 'She couldn't cry'...right over to ....'Water's Edge'....simply beautiful...a combination of emotional feelings from deep within in words and sound, fantastically recorded and mixed together into a terrific designed ALBUM...."VIBRATES"....a must to have in anyones collection.

well done

A very thoughful, melodic and crafted piece of work, lyrically evocative, immaculately performed, with some of the world's finest musicians... and Soussan is no slouch himself. Just one question, when the follow up is recorded, can I play drums on it?

A great CD!
I was very impressed with the depth and breadth of the music - the CD was recommended by a colleague, so I anticipated that it would be good, but it exceeded my expectations!

Real music...real talent...REAL F'N GOOD!
With a lot today's music is, there are not many cd's come out in which I can honestly find inspiring. That is, until now. On Vibrate, the songwriting is incredible, almost flawless. Catchy grooves, hooks, beautiful melodies, wicked guitar solos(with feeling!), along with great lyrical content, complete this masterpiece from front to back. From the groovy opening track, Human Race, to the the Pink Floyd inspired last track, Water's Edge, this cd is full of amazing music. A combination of rock, pop, classic, and alternative sounds, makes for a well crafted album. You won't be disappointed when you buy this cd. It's just like a shot in the dark......always creeping up on you!

Poignant, reflective, kinetic and memorable.......
This album has revived my faith in the power of music. It rock's and yet you can actually understand the artist. Vibrate is filled with cerebral imagery while contemporaneously reflective of emotions that are universal...great work of art, Phil.

Grammy Worthy - Very Well Written!
I did not expect this record to be this good. I listen to it constantly and each time my favorite song changes. In this day you NEVER get an album full of great songs - what you get is one hit and a back up...that's certainly not the case here. I'd buy the t-shirt and the concert ticket as well - hope I get the chance.

Phil Soussan/Vibrate -- Awesome Musician, very nice songs
Very nice Pop Rock Songs. Melodic and diversified. Cool arrangements, good producing, awesome musicians. Phil Soussan seems to be a very good songwriter, singer and musician, playing bass, guitars, keys on most of the songs supplemented by cool guitar solos by Steve Lukather, Ritchie Kotzen etc. and groovy drums by Simon Philips and Greg Bissonette. Congratulations and many Thanks, Phil!!
