Album Notes
Hypothetically of Course is the latest offering from singer/songwriter Phil Streets and producer Steve Thornbrugh. The album includes ten original songs, uniquely written and arranged to provide a seamless blend of pop, rock and jazz, while staying just beyond the reach of categories.

Streets’ passion for mixing musical genres was hard-wired early. Throughout childhood, his father, a jazz musician, exposed Phil to a variety of jazz artists, many of whom rehearsed regularly in their home. This exposure helped shape Phil’s own musical tastes.

“I’m not a jazz musician, but I’ve always loved the sound of jazz, the refined harmonies and instruments. To me, introducing jazz elements releases music that would otherwise be identified by the pop culture of its day, into something more timeless.” It was this background, coupled with his later attraction to pop and rock music, that created the sound you hear in this album.

“ I love the four minute format in popular music. It’s a little package of composition, arrangement, improv and lyric that introduces an idea, and gets out. I hope something in my music ignites that little spark that connects listener to song.”

We invite you to take the journey created by this seasoned musician. The album features some great indie artists, including long-time Austin drummer Jeff Smith; Finnish bassist Jari Riitala; veteran L.A. jazz saxophonist Steve Wilkerson and Tulsa guitarist Barry Seal. Also featuring the exceptional talents of producer Steve Thornbrugh, Hypothetically of Course provides a unique lyrical perspective on topics ranging from love lost to 9/11, and offers listeners a signature sound that’s outside the mainstream, with purpose.
