ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Phumlani has been a revelation with the release of his debut Maskandi album, Is'qomaqomane. The Album is beautifully crafted, showcasing his magical song writing ability. The different songs talk to his life experiences and challenges that he and many others face in their day to day lives.

Phumlani Mgobhozi's music career started with a R200 from his mother, which he used for a taxi from rural KwaZulu Natal to Johannesburg in 2001. He has since released 5 Gospel Albums before being encouraged to try his hand at Maskandi, by his manager Geoff Evans, culminating in the release of Is'qomaqomane in January 2014.

The title track has brought Phumlani to the forefront of South African music, with his songs being played on national radio regularly for the last 6 months.

Phumlani has performed at the launch of the South African Traditional Music Award (SATMA) in June 2014 and has played to audiences of over 30 000 people around the country.
