Album Notes
Rick Pickren, a descendant of Buffalo Bill Cody, sings and plays sixteen colorful cowboy songs with vitality and authenticity. Eleven of the songs are from John A. Lomax's 1910 collection "Cowboy Songs and Other Frontier Ballads"; two are attributed to cowboy Romy Loudermilk and three are Rick's original cowboy songs.

Rick is a two time winner of the Marlboro Country Music Tour Contest. He has shared the stage with George Strait, Merle Haggard, Dolly Parton, The Judds, Joe Ely, Steve Earle, Rodney Crowell and cowboy poet Waddie Mitchell.

As an actor, Rick portrayed the role of Jim in the original Chicago production of Pump Boys and Dinettes and also starred in and directed Foxfire. He is featured in the films: Major League, While You Were Sleeping, U.S. Marshals and Soul Survivors. He has appeared in many TV programs, guest-starring in The Untouchables, Early Edition, Turks and The Jamie Kennedy Experiment.

Your Misfortune and None of My Own
Keeping alive the spirit of Buffalo Bill Cody, Chicago songwriter Rick Pickren delivers a baker's dozen of good old cowboy songs from the library of John Lomax and Romy Loudermilk. Pickren's original tunes then top off these essentials for the Twang library. "If I Could (I would) I'd be a Cowboy" puts the Western Swing back in Country & Western, and the final cut, "Can I Count on You", brings us back home with fine slide guitar & fiddle that evokes new traditions as well as James McMurtry or Lyle Lovett.
If you don't get Songs from the Lonesome Prairie, well then, as the old cowpoke sings "it's your misfortune and none of my own..."

I have enjoyed the CD greatly. I recommend it to any onyone.
My older sisters used to play and sing these songs when I was born, (1933)and I remember them now that I hear them again. The songs & CD are great, and I thank you for being there, bringing better than the latest modern music back to us. I will review the other CD's you offer, too.
Best Regards & many thanks,

Wes St.Onge

Chris Packer and Robyn Mace

terrific eclectic authentic cowboy
Ecletic collection of cowboy standards and a couple of originals that are instantly familiar and fun. Songs feature a variety of instruments, mandolin, jaw harp, accordian, and harmonica - all played by an apparently very talented singer/musician. Particular favorites are "Jesse James" and "If I Could (I Would) I'd be a Cowboy". Really, I would. Grand collection!
