Album Notes
Rising like a phoenix from the ashes of Atlanta’s ‘Laura Monk and High Cotton,’ comes ‘Pickxen,’ extending the continuum of the best in solid, country fried songwriting traditions. After several near misses at becoming overnight one-hit wonders, Laura Monk (Dixie), John Monk (Pixie) and Michael Garvey (Micksy), have once again dipped their toes into the musical Gulf of Mexico and found the water warm and inviting.

Produced at Georgia’s legendary Blackberry Whine Studios and steeped in the tradition of southern storytelling, ‘Picks ’n Vittles,’ Pickxen's very first cd, starts off with the unofficial theme song for the Tennessee Travel and Tourism Convocation, “Better In Tennessee.” With songs like “Jubilee,” the story of a fictional southern belle who may, (or may not), be holding on too long to some old traditions, the Louvin Brothers inspired “Breath,” lost lover’s lamentations in “Alabama,” and “Poor Lucy’s Crooked Mile,” a song that follows a little band in Louisiana as they chase their dream from Saint Bernard parish to yonder side of Saint Landry, ‘Picks ’n Vittles’ has something for everyone - southerner or just southerner at heart.
