Album Notes
The title of the new release is “Just A Sittin & A Rockin'
with T-Bone Paxton” on the Eastlawn Record label. Planet D
Nonet bandleaders RJ Spangler and James O’Donnell have been
making music with John "T-Bone" Paxton for over 35 years.
Paxton is widely acknowledged as one the the finest
interpreters of the Ellington trombone style in Detroit's
current jazz and swing musical community. On this recording
he is featured primarily as a vocalist.

John’s father, Fred Paxton, was a fine pianist and band
director at Osborn High School on Detroit’s east side, where
the family lived. "T-Bone" grew up hearing swing music and
the Great American Song Book around the house. John is a
veteran musician having backed numerous touring artists that
have come through the Detroit area over the last 35 years,
including Earl King and Johnny Adams from New Orleans, and
even the salsa great Eddie Palmieri. Clearly Paxton's
influences are deep.

This collection features the music of Harold Arlen, Danny
Barker, Percy Mayfield, and of course the revered team of
Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn. Some of the musical charts
were arranged by the band's musical director, Joshua James,
while others were scored by frequent contributor Mike Sailors.
This release also features many "head arrangements" put
together by various band members, along with guest artist
Ralph Tope.

This collection is an exquisite replication of what patrons
and fans enjoy most every night on stage with the inimitable
Planet D Nonet, a nine-piece swing band with a mission.
