Album Notes
After 2 hugely successful instrumental albums in “Dreamscapes” and “Guitar Odyssey”, Austrian guitar virtuoso Milan Polak returns with his first solo vocal album entitled “Straight”. The album is powered by 13 rocking tracks that not only showcase Milan’s guitar prowess but also his great bluesy vocals backed by a killer band of Randy Coven (bass, ex Malmsteen, Ark, MCM), John Macaluso (drums, ex Malmsteen, Ark, John Macaluso & Union Radio) and Fabio Trentini (bass).

On the new album Milan comments, “'Straight' stands for the whole concept of this album. One day I sat down and thought about a single word that could perfectly describe me & my music and I found it in 'straight'. The term 'straight' has a lot of different meanings and they all apply to my personality, my lyrics, my music and my attitude. It stands for the way this album looks, sounds and was produced - no FX, no BS. What you see & hear is what you get - 100% Milan. Enjoy!“.

On the change of direction, “I had started to realize that playing instrumental guitar music only offers limited possibilities, so I decided to take a step into another direction and write songs with lyrics & vocals to reach a wider audience”. Fans of Milan’s guitar work will not find any lack of fret board prowess but the addition of vocals gives a more balanced packaged.

Department of Virtuosity (Poland)

Milan Polak - Straight
Some of you can remember Mr. Polak from his first two solo albums and his reputation as one of the greatest European guitarists. It isn't strange at all, since he has a great experience in many styles and achieved it cooperating with the likes of Last Acoustic, Joel Rivard, Alessandro Benvenuti, Lidia Baich, Falco (late Hans Hölzel), Haddaway, Sigi Maron, Todd Duane, New World and a famous virtuoso Paul Gilbert. The line-up gathered for the third Milan's solo release was as follows: Milan Polak (vocal, guitar, percussion, additional bass, blues harp), John Macaluso (drums; Yngwie Malmsteen, Ark, Union Radio), Randy Coven (bass guitar; Yngwie Malmsteen, Ark, MCM) and Fabio Trentini (bass guitar).

As you can remember, Milan was famous for his instrumental excesses on previous solo stuffs, but this time he decided to change a musical direction. First and foremost, Milan sang on all the tracks for the first time and showed off an excellent English accent. As far as the instrumental side of the stuff is concerned, he placed an emphasis on feeling and simplicity. He plays nor daredevil, neither experimental guitar solos, but treats them as a diversity of every track.

Since some pieces of his music are groovy, bluesy and even funky, it can be compared to solo works produced by Patrick Vega and Richie Kotzen (latest ones). Another distinguishing feature of this Austrian virtuoso's solo release is a modern sound, however the thing I most like is its clouded, muffled, nostalgic, atmospheric and alternative mood in a sense. Briefly put, this music is as straight as its composer, haha.
