Album Notes
An optimistic, idealist album composed of 10 short vignettes or "splashes" of shimmering melody, texture and rhythm underscored with layers of field recordings. "The Albatross EP" is the perfect soundtrack to an ethereal dream, a vivid selection of atmospheric music laced with glittering electronic tones. A solid addition to the canon of ambient pop electronica.

want more
Both soothing and catchy. I love Of Japan, Into the Sea, and Silver Blueberry but I just wish they were longer. I hope Adam Young makes an extended version of this EP. I'm a big fan of Port Blue and Owl City too.

It's so good I want more!
What a great album.
Short! But beautiful.

Delicous blend of natural and electronic sounds
I added this CD on a whim after I had determined to order a Freelance Bishops CD. Since I got it, I have been playing it quite often! It's awesome!

It is hard to find good, instrumental electronica that has structured songwriting that isn't droning, sappy, or clichéd! The Albatross EP is a great mixture of ambient environmental sounds, various synthesizers, subtle piano, and abstract electronic percussion.

It features a lot of ambient piano on it, too, but it is not overdone. Adam plays a few notes of the main melody and then it trails off while you are pondering what he just played. Then the piano come in again to add a few more splashes of sonic color. A lot echoey synths do the same thing.

Some of the songs are reminiscent of Chicane's early works with soft, fuzzy strings, and spacious effects. "Butterflies" sounds like Ulrich Schauss' electronic works where he sounds a little like U2 doing ambient electronica. It is has a very 80's bassline, but that is not bad. Fans of Vangelis and The Essesence will also love In the Dolphin Tank for the shimmering strings.

Silver Blueberry is a beautifull little ditty which only clocks in at 1 minute, 19 seconds. It features some squealing, gliding lead sounds, acoustic guitar strumming, and great percussion build up. It seems like a teaser that it is so short. Hey, Adam, stretch this one out! This one sounds like it could open some doors for you!

My only complaint about this CD is that even though it features 10 songs, it is way to short! ;-( I know it is an E.P., but it is a audio tease -like going to a fancy restaraunt and being served tiny portions of great food and then the chef quits! It is well worth $9.99 though! I'll buy the next Port Blue CD on the virtue of this one.
