Album Notes
Porterhouse Bob is a blues based pianist, vocalist, writer and interpreter of New Orleans influenced music featuring woodwind and brass backed by an exhilarating and funky street-cadence. The 7 piece band features players from renowned jazz, blues and pop bands.

As bandleader, pianist and vocalist performing in the style of Professor Longhair, Doctor John and Piano Red, Porterhouse Bob (aka Robert Johnson) has been a featured artist on KJAZZ ‘Nothin’ but the Blues’. Robert has performed with the original Coasters and Willie Dixon, and shared the stage with B.B. King, Dereck Trucks, Muddy Waters, Paul Butterfield, James Cotton, Billie Branch and many other notable blues artists. At 15 years old, he went on tour with Dot Records artists ‘The Stingrays’, touring with The Safaris, The Champs, The Ventures and The Tornadoes. This was followed by long term engagements with various recording artists in Houston, Toronto, Vancouver and San Francisco.

In 2000, Robert formed Porterhouse Bob and Down to the Bone to celebrate his musical influences, Fats Domino, Louie Jordan, Champion Jack Dupree, Little Richard, the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Professor Longhair, Doctor John, Louis Prima, Roosevelt Sykes and Slim Harpo. The band has toured throughout the western United States, performed on A&E TV with Gene Simmons and produced 4 CDs with sales and airplay throughout the U.S., Europe and South America.

Mitch Montrose (drums). Drumming since the age of eleven, Mitch originally studied with Forrest Elledge (CBS Live, Tom Jones). He began playing in jazz and R&B ensembles from his early teens, leading to performances and a European tour. In 1975 Mitch teamed up with western “swingster” Cornell Hurd for Hurd’s Mondo Hotpants Orchestra project.

Mike Barry (bass). Mike has performed on bass as a 20 year member of The Bernie Pearl and Harmonica Fats Band. He has recorded or played with B.B. King, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Papa John Creach, Willie Dixon, Lowell Fulson, Linda Hopkins, Charles Brown, John Mayall, Dr. John, Guitar Shorty, The King Brothers and many other great blues performers.

George Pandis (trumpet). George worked with jazz greats Larry Carlton, Don Ellis and Frank Rosolino. He played lead trumpet at the Hollywood Bowl with conductor Lalo Schifrin. In 2000 George started working with blues artist Roy Gaines, doing coconcerts in the US and four European tours. He is the principal arranger for Porterhouse Bob. George also works with the Art Laboe Show backing up R&B artists such as Heatwave, Wild Cherry, Deniece Williams, Bloodstone, Billy Paul, Sly, Slick & Wicked, Al Wilson, Peaches & Herb, The Intruders, Bloodstone, and Barbara Lynn. George also tours with Branscombe Richmond (actor, co-star of TV show "Renegade").

Dan Heffernan (tenor saxophone, clarinet, tuba, piccolo). Dan has performed or recorded with such artists as Lucky Peterson, Mary Wilson & the Supremes, Shelby Lynne, Gina Eckstine, Lee Oskar, Buddy Greco, Robert Goulet, Alan King, Edie Adams, Florence Henderson, Ben Vereen, Melba Moore, Sylvie Vartan, Emily King, and Andre Hatef.

Ken Tussing (trombone). Ken performed with Ray Charles for 10 years. He has toured and/or recorded with many great artists including: James Belushi, Edgar Winter, Malo, James Brown, Marty Balin, The Gap Band, Billy Preston, Ella Fitzgerald, The Temptations, The Four Tops, Sammy Davis, the Tex Benekie Orchestra and the Harry James Orchestra. Ken recently performed with Elton John.

Don Roberts (baritone saxophone). After a short stint with legendary band leader Harry James, Don toured and recorded with Loggins and Messina. Concurrently, from 1973 to 1976, he toured with Elvis Presley. Don was the featured soloist with Manhattan Transfer, has performed with the Brian Setzer Orchestra and recorded with Christopher Cross on his first album.
