Album Notes
17-year-old, singer / songwriter, Porter Kenyon is releasing his debut EP "Things I Shouldn't Have Said," starting with the first single of the same title.

Kenyon, a 17-year-old from Cedar Springs, MI, started playing piano at age 8 and early on, enjoyed practicing daily. However, after 4 years, he bargained with his parents to let him stop taking private lessons so that instead he could continue studying piano independently in order to focus on his love of pop music, as opposed to traditional pieces typically geared towards piano students.

He quickly began learning the challenging pieces of some of his favorite artists like Ben Folds, Billy Joel, Coldplay and Twenty-One Pilots and soon after, began composing original piano pieces.

He joined the school band as a percussionist in 6th grade and while he enjoyed percussion itself, he discovered that band class often resulted in waiting, rather than rehearsing, whenever the instructor needed to work with other students. Kenyon grew eager to spend his elective time practicing so after 2 years of band, he opted out but continued, now with a more developed sense of timing, to practice daily on the piano.

Upon receiving studio time as a gift this past Christmas, Kenyon set off writing lyrics to one of his original compositions, which eventually became "Things I Shouldn't Have Said." He teamed up with producer, Joel Ferguson of The Verve Pipe & Papa Vegas and owner / operator of Planet Sunday Studios in Rockford, MI. Together they fashioned the recording of the first single in short order over a few after-school studio sessions.

Kenyon thrived on the experience of recording in the studio. Immediately upon completion of the first track, he had a second song in mind. He completed they lyrics for that song as well. Again he and Ferguson set out to cut that track as well. Kenyon has a knack for writing catchy hooks with heartfelt conversational lyrics that convey the wisdom of an old soul.

Concurrent with the recording of the EP, are the plans for a "Things I Shouldn't Have Said" music video. The video, filmed in West Michigan is to be released along side the release of the single in August of 2019.
