Album Notes
For Athens cinematic pop group Powerkompany, the title of their 2013 LP "I Am More Than This" has become something of a mantra. On one level, it reflects the title track’s defiant feel. It also acts as a rallying cry for bandmates Marie Davon and Andrew Heaton, who are constantly testing their creative identities through experimentations with fashion, remix projects, video and cross-genre collaborations.

Davon and Heaton met in another life, when both were working as scientists, dreaming of something more. Both veterans of the Athens music scene, they were each working on their own musical projects-- Davon playing viola and singing with the now-defunct orchestral pop outfit Venice is Sinking, and Heaton a part of the raucous bluegrass group, The Packway Handle Band. Bridging the divergent worlds of indie rock and Americana, the two found each other’s muses in full synch.

Through their partnership, both Heaton and Davon have found a way to reflect their respective talents off of each other, creating a rich, cinematic and emotionally honest pop. The single "Another One Born in New York" is one of the best and most popular representations of Powerkompany's sound. This song's video is Davon's debut directing effort and explores her identity in relation to place and people. On stage Powerkompany continues to experiment and evolve. Their live performances have been called impressive and telescopic, ranging from Marie’s Kate Bush-esque solo act to a full band with dancers and lights resembling a trippy but strangely more grounded Cirque du Soleil.

Some of the best creative partnerships are flexible, playful and mutually supportive, and that’s what Heaton and Davon have found in each other. From that partnership, and the conviction that they can always be more that what they are, they’ve developed an ever-evolving, ever-deepening musical identity for Powerkompany.
