ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Praeter Caelestis - Latin for "beyond the heavens". In antiquity, the heavens were synonymous with the gods, so Praeter Caelestis also translates as "beyond divinity". More than just a blackmetal band, Praeter Caelestis is a collection of ideas and ideals, of philosophers and scientists.

The band was formed in 2004 CE by Jarred and Robert, old members of a dark/blackmetal band Winter Eternus. They decided to take symphonic blackmetal in a new direction, writing thematically based music popular in modern film scores. They also decided to embed their philosophies within their music using the blackmetal lexicon.

Shortly after the formation of Praeter Caelestis, many other members from Winter Eternus joined the project and brought with them their unique talents and creative styles. A long time friend of the band took the position of vocalist and a second guitarist was found among the Los Angeles elite. Once complete, the band released a demo, "Ex Obscuritatem" and began dominating the stage in the Southern California area.

A unique band, their members hold degrees in fields ranging from Communication Studies and Digital Media Arts to Molecular Biology, Music, Sound Recording, Mathematics, English and Chemistry. Song themes range from society purging the evils of Christianity and other superstitions to the continued progression of science, philosophy, and technology.
