ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Presti's debut CD fills a gap in the guitar trio repertoire by presenting both tantalizing new arrangements of music that span the eras as well as original compositions. Covering various eras, the journey begins with the understated elegance and sophistication of Renaissance dances for viol trio (Ferrabosco the Younger, arr. Amelkina-Vera), and moves into the only known programmatic work by J.S. Bach, originally for harpsichord.

20th-century Spanish nationalist Joaquin Turina's piano collection "Gypsy Dances" (arr. Hartzell) returns to the fiery roots of its flamenco inspiration, evoking passionate and classic scenes of Spain that will quicken the pulse!

Premier recordings of the works of award-winning Texas-based composers Mark Anthony Cruz and Presti member Olga Amelkina-Vera top off the project. These works represent a new generation of composers whose output is clearly a product of the diverse musical influences of our modern era, creating a music that defies rigid categorization.

The legendary Ida Presti is the inspiration for this group of prominent classical guitarists, who met at a festival in Texas in 2010 and decided to create the first professional all-women guitar ensemble in the US. Initially a quartet, Presti dedicates this CD to the memory of founding member Sabine Madriguera, whose life, like Ida Presti's, was cut tragically short by illness.

Having given recitals on 4 continents, Presti's members draw from a deep wellspring of performance experience. With undergraduate and graduate music degrees from such prominent music programs as Peabody Conservatory, University of North Texas, and the University of Southern California, the women of Presti collectively have 9 degrees, speak 5 languages fluently, and have worked with some of the most internationally renowned guitarists and teachers in the world.

This CD is dedicated to the memory of founding Presti member Sabine Madriguera, whose life, like Ida Presti's, was cut tragically short by illness. In honor of Sabine, Fernand Vera joined Presti in recording two pieces for guitar quartet written by Olga-Amelkina Vera.
