Album Notes
Our first album!! The title comes from the fact that both Tom and I, the original Price City Revolution, are teachers. Surely you have heard YOUR teacher ask you, "Are you Listening?" Hence the title of the album.
This is really a reflection on modern times. The original idea was to do an update of Appalachian music in a modern style and our first song that reflects this thinking is "Shady Grove". Not a revolutionary idea. Plenty of bands have done this. However, as we looked around us and at our day-to-day lives, we quickly changed, as all creative groups do.
Looking back, "Are You Listening?" is a our commentary on our American life in the last few years of the 20th Century. In listening to these songs, this becomes evident. Cell phones, reality TV, lost souls of the younger generation caused by the materialistic indifference of the older generation, false hero worship and lost love. Great themes that all artists reflect upon. In the end, however, comes the recognition that there are anchors in life that hold true and this gives us stability. I think if you listen to this album in this light, you will identify in something we attempted to demonstrate.
Give the samples a listen. No doubt you will hear something that will touch you as well as something you may disagree with, but you will be impacted. Don't expect slick, expect to be changed.
