Album Notes
Prudence Johnson is an internationally acclaimed vocalist with a dozen recordings under her belt. A Prairie Home Companion regular in the late eighties, she twice toured of the Soviet Union, was founding member of "WOMEN WHO COOK!," and appeared as a singer in Robert Redford's "A RIVER RUNS THROUGH IT." Her 1994 Redhouse Records release, "LITTLE DREAMER" was a Grammy nominee. Prudence is presently touring the country behind the release of "MOON COUNTRY." Additional information is available at her web site,

"MOON COUNTRY," her 10th offering (and 7th solo effort) is a beautifully executed tribute to one of America's premier composers of the popular song, Hoagy Carmichael. Produced by Prudence Johnson and Adi Yeshaya, arranged and conducted by Adi Yeshaya. Featuring Dean Magraw, Guitars; Joe Pulice, Drums; Gary Raynor, Bass; Dan Chouinard, Piano and accordian and a host of violins, cellos, violas, reeds and horns.

Review 1: "Armed with the timbre and phrasing that comes from years of experimentation, ...a true artist hitting her timeless stride."

Review 2: "She's got the Veronica Lake Look and a smoky delivery that will make you homesick for the Twentieth Century."

Review 3: "Prudence wraps her silky alto around some of the best material of the twentieth Century. Carmichael would certainly approve."

It was wonderful - just like your Dad said it would be! :) We are Imy's cousins, BUT we do totally enjoy the CD!

piano only accompaniment?
Songs are intimate. Late night Piano bar type tunes may have done better with piano only accompaniment, or piano and string bass.

Excellent performance of these standards.
I think Ms. Johnson did an excellent job with this material, especially with "The Nearness of You". I am glad I heard her appearance on "Prairie Home Companion", and I expect to order several more of her CD's from you in the near future.

Terrific album. I have always thought that Matt Monro's album of Hoagy Carmichael's music (never released in the USA) was the best interpretation out there. I think prudence Johnson's is just as good.

Being a "Hoagy" Carmichael fan, finding Prudence is a pure joy!
This is one of my favorite CD's. I love all of Hoagy's
music, and would love to hear more from Prudence Johnson.
Excellent treatment of Hong Kong Blues. Can't wait to hear
her rendition of Small Fry!
