by Pal Shazar

"Safe" is a particularly gritty CD with a lot of punchy grooves, aggressive and imaginative guitars, overlaid with a set of Pal's most self-critical yet self-assured lyrics and vocals.

Album Notes

Pal Shazar first entered the music scene with the popular and critically respected 80's new wave band "Slow Children". Along with husband Jules Shear, the band band presented intelligent lyrics with a high energy guitar- and synth-driven sound.

Pal has continued writing songs with intelligent, insightful, and spirtually probing lyrics, with a different musical style mixing rock, blues and folk influences, delivering them with a worldly and rough-edged vocal tone that tells you she knows whereof she sings.

Ranging from narrative folk ballads to funky blues grooves to all out thunderous powerchords, Pal and an amazing array of excellent musicians (including Mike Scott of the Waterboys, and of course Jules Shear), her recordings are first rate renderings of songs that deserve such a treatment.

Originally from LA, and finally settling in Woodstock, Pal also became well known for her paintings and for clothes design, all while independently releasing her CDs and garnering an international cult following.

Pal regularly performs at THE LIVING ROOM in NYC, and recently published a book of her paintings titled "THE ILLUSTRATED LYRICS".

What you got here is the deep-funky-shuffle of "Departure", the strutting blues of "Safe, the crazy playfulness of "I Want To Make It To Mars", and the backwater grunge of "King of Lonely Street", backing up Pal as she shows that self-reflection can be both blistering and blissful.

when you have a powerful poet with vocals that caress your ears. it tickles like a whispered coo.
this cd will rock your world. again, pal and her multi-talented stellar band and producer will always be a "safe" bet. indie artists are super underdogs that provide affordable quality music for us music lovers. i applaud's customer satisfaction promptness with orders and for follow/ups like this. :)
