Album Notes
Voyager Records newest delight is Harp Horizons, a wonderful New Age journey for harp and instruments through Celtic hymns and original music. The CD showcases Phyllis Sparks, a dynamic live performer, savvy composer, prolific recording artist, and in-demand session player. In her fifth CD, she uses current rhythms and styles in a prolific journey through traditional music (Amazing Grace and Simple Gifts) to some exceptionally inspired new music for harp, guitar, keyboard, percussion, and violin. Assisted by her band "The Dream Machine", Phyllis brings her writing to a new personal level and into the world of pop music. Known for communicating well with her audience, this newest installment is sure to reach everyone on some level. Equally at home playing Celtic hymns or one of her original compositions with a flamenco flavor, Ms. Sparks is broadening musical horizons. Come along and take the journey!

The list of people whom Phyllis Taylor Sparks has played for reads like a virtual Who's Who, including the wedding of Natalie Cole, numerous events for Tennessee Governor Phil Bredesen, and for H.R.H. Prince Edward on his recent trip to Nashville. In addition to her work as a solo artist, Ms. Sparks has played with the Nashville Symphony on their Carnegie Hall Tour and on the Amy Grant 2001 Christmas Tour. Ms. Sparks and her jazz trio, The Dream Machine, have played Nashville's prestigious Swan Ball. She has also accompanied Josh Groban, Billy Ray Cyrus, Lorrie Morgan and the legendary Ray Charles. While playing with the Nashville Chamber Orchestra, Phyllis accompanied Trey Anastasio, of the rock group Phish, at the 2004 Bonnaroo Festival. "That had to be one of the most surreal gigs I've ever played. Being on stage at a world-known music festival in front of 90,000 screaming people was indescribable. Just the roar of the crowd made you feel like you could do anything".

As owner of a 23 KT Gold Venus Aria harp and the creator of the beautiful music emanating from its strings, Phyllis Taylor Sparks is an exceptional performer. Unlike some musicians, Ms. Sparks is not limited to a single genre of music, and her repertoire reflects that. Phyllis also performs on a Venus Classis Concert Grand harp and a Dusty Strings Celtic harp.

Ms Sparks is a former member of the Mantovani Orchestra. Other recordings by Phyllis on Voyager Records include: **NEW** 2009 A Special Celtic Harp Christmas**. Celtic Harp Sparks!, Heart Strings, I Remember You, and Harp For Christmas.

Harp Horizons
This cd is wonderful. We played the music at my husbands funeral. It was just perfect for him and he would have loved it. I did. Unfortunately, the funeral home lost the CD, so I did not get it back. I did download it on my computer before the funeral, so I have a copy. Thank you for this surreal music. I will order more later. Thank YOu!!!

destined to be in my cd player often
I particularly enjoy how Phyllis Taylor Sparks breathes new life into standard Celtic hymns with her creative arrangements of material such as "Amazing Grace," "Morning Has Broken," and "Celtic Farewell." Even so, my favorite pieces are her generous offerings of original material, which are often almost effervescent and prompt me to daydreams of Spanish Gypsy caravans ("Conquest"), moving to Celtic shores ("Celtic Reflections") and finally, to cool jazz played on the French Riviera ("Interlude").

Ms. Sparks is joined by stellar musicians, which always complement and never overpower the lead instrument. Most exciting to me as a listener are the soaring violin parts and the addition of electric guitar, which is seldom heard coupled with harp. Phyllis' technical perfection is evident, yet her flawless execution doesn't sacrifice the emotion that is at the heart and soul of this most difficult and exquisite instrument, which can often be the case when listening to someone who can play so well. "Harp Horizons" is destined to be in my CD player often and I highly recommend it for those looking for the next great harpist.
