ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Highly Irregular - A truly Chicago sounding album that celebrates it's rich history of Hip-Hop, House, Jazz and Juke. Mulatto Patriot's productions lays a great backdrop for Pugs Atomz to vibe out and tell stories of the modern day griot. This is a well orchestrated project with guests dropping in and out for a few bars as musicians, singers and Dj's compliment the sound. Atomz showcases a unique flow with heavy bars delivering thoughtful commentary of the world today to anthems that make you "Sweat". Mulatto and Pugs have been working in the studio together for all most 10 years now and they got that chemistry. From the front to the back of this project it shows, giving you a new soundtrack to life in these days and time. This album features DJ Gantman (Tek Life), GLC, Maceo Haymes (The O' My's), Maggie Vagle (Sidewalk Chalk) and many more.

Back Story:
10 Years ago, before Pugs Atomz toured the world a few times with his group The Electric, or started designing clothing for Iridium Clothing Co., he would meet an Engineer & Producer on the westside of Chicago with the moniker Mulatto Patriot. Mulatto was working on a compilation album at the time and it featured people like Ras Kass, Casual, Eternia and many of the up and coming artist in Chicago of that time.

"I was shooting some music videos for him, and he recorded a few songs for me soon after. The one thing I noticed, he was one of the most honest engineers I had ever worked with. He treated every session the same from mixtape records to albums, even the DJ Drops. MP would push the artist to give their best performance, as-well-as be the voice in the room to say that's the take or this isn't working." - Pugs Atomz

The two started to record for Pugs Atomz's "Roof Top" album and the songs that would later take Atomz to London with the Electric in 2009. At the time the loose collective of artist that came through Mulatto's studio were all starting to work together and developed "feel good" a very Chicago conversational style of rap with new live elements but backed by the Golden age ethos of slick bars as Mulatto flipped samples and live instruments. Artist like The Primeridian, Rashid Hadee, Neak, Psalm One, ADD 2, Probcause and even Chance The Rapper to name a few have recorded at his different home studio setups.

When Atomz moved back to Chicago from London a few years ago he got right back in the studio with the Patriot, but this time they agreed to work on a project with just his production. But what was really different about this and the other projects they had done before was there was no rush no urgency to be done just an urgency to make honest songs as they came, and to let the music evolve naturally. "We had a few listening sessions and exchanged a lot of ideas and random songs on the way to make this project. But the one thing I love about this suite of music is how much the songs grew over the 4 year period we worked on this " - Pugs Atomz
