Album Notes
Diana Tolmie found the Queensland Conservatorium Saxophone Orchestra (QCSO) in 2008 initially to provide tertiary saxophone students further experience in ensemble repertoire and technical skills. Our mission developed to include the collegial experience and collective pride as classical saxophonists. From this it became a vehicle for exploring the professional elements of educating, commissioning, performing, touring, networking and recording. At the time of recording this ensemble has performed in the Queensland Music Festival (2011), the Australian Clarinet and Saxophone Festival (Melbourne, 2011), the Australian Saxophone and Clarinet Conference (Sydney, 2013), the Selmer Paris Showroom (2015) and the XVI and XVII World Saxophone Congresses (Scotland 2012, France 2015). In addition to this, the QCSO is highly active performing and educating in metro, regional and rural schools and venues, with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, plus collaborations with inter/national saxophonists to perform a diverse range of music. We strive to support and work with new, emerging and established composers inspiring our passion for Australian music, strongly contributing to the national identity that is the Australian Classical Saxophone School. These works are especially written for the QCSO and are poignantly relevant to the current economical, cultural, and ecological climate of our nation. We would like to share with you our documented journey of the hard work, life-learning and tremendous events we have experienced this year. This is their second CD.
