ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
You Are My Inheritance is a highly varied collection of liturgical and sacred music composed by Rachel Burckardt. Rachel serves as a volunteer liturgical musician and composer at St. Cecilia Parish in Boston, Massachusetts. This is her 3rd CD of original church music.

The CD features many of Rachel's settings for psalms. Most of these settings have been used at the parish liturgies and are adaptable to many forms of worship services. The settings feature refrains that are accessible to the congregation, while providing melodic and harmonic interest in the verses which are sung by a soloist.

A high point of the recording is Rachel's setting of the Ave Maria, inspired by Gregorian chant and arranged in the Lydian Mode, which is the original mode of the Church. It is both ancient and modern in its setting.

"Rachel Burckardt has a unique compositional style, personal and always pushing the boundaries of a complex harmonic language." (Joe Matzzie, composer and guitarist)

"Rachel is an artist seeped in God’s Word and its relevance for people today. She paints a canvas of truth and beauty that defies genre and powerfully uplifts the spiritual experience of the listener.” (Richard J. Clark, Director of Music, Organist, St. Cecilia Parish, Boston, MA)

Regarding the setting of Psalm 138, In the Sight of the Angels: "This one is incredibly prayerful. The harmonies are angelic. The shifting meter gives it a weightless quality. There is nothing derivative about Rachel's compositions. They are honest." (Paul Hoffman, music director, St. John the Evangelist Church, East Bridgewater, Massachusetts)

The recording also includes a number of improvisations as well as instrumental soundscapes inspired by the scriptures.
