ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
“On the road to…” is the 5th album from UK based folk rock band Rack and Ruin. The band delivers a fusion of folk instrumentation and songs over a rock bass and drum section. This studio recording has tried to capture the energy and excitement of the band when playing live

The 11 track collection features the best of the songs and tunes that the band are currently playing in gigs around the UK. The songs are drawn from the Irish and traditional repertoire - including Carrickfergus and New York Girls as well as being written by the band’s founder - Mick Bisiker. .

The sets of tunes feature the dextrous fiddle playing of Nigel Ward often with guitar or mandola interplay from Mick Bisiker all driven along by the powerhouse rhythm section of bassist Chris Radley and drummer Tom Bisiker. The tunes are drawn from the Irish and English tradition.

The core of the current line up is band founder, singer and guitarist Mick Bisiker, fiddle player Nigel Ward and bass player Chris Radley who have all played together since 2003. Added to the line up for this album are drummer Tom Bisker and saxophonist and singer Deb Gomme.

Mick is a stalwart of the folk scene in the English Midlands. He ran his own folk club in Birmingham in the 80s and has been fronting various versions of Rack and Ruin since the late 1990’s. The current line up is the longest lasting to date. Bass player Chris Radley joined in 2001 and fiddle player Nigel Ward joined soon after. Tom Bisiker, Mick’s son, has drummed with the band over the last few years while sax player Deb Gomme has only fully joined the band in 2018.

Both live and recorded the sound of the band is full and melodic with layered vocals and traditional folk instrumentation but with the added drive of a rock rhythm section.
