Album Notes
Darśan or Darshan (Sanskrit: दर्शन) is a Sanskrit term meaning "sight" It is most commonly used for "visions of the divine" in Hindu worship. It so happened that on the week we were due to be recording at Rawat’s Recording Studio in Haridwar there was a power cut. This was set to be for a few hours but instead went on for days. Finally the power came back on and we were called to the recording studio the day before we were due to leave to come back to Australia. We were there for 5 minutes before the power went off again. It was due to last for 45 minutes – after three hours we began to question if this was ever going to happen. After another two hours I began to lose faith, perhaps this just wasn’t meant to be. At this stage we decided to see a little bit more of Haridwar, we went to a near by temple. Here we were looking around and then took Darshan – communion with God, a blessing. No sooner had we done so the telephone rang. The power was back on! 5 days and 6 hours later with only 4 hours to go recording began and the name of this album was settled upon.

Radha Rani was a singer and actress for many years in London before journeying to India and turning her life onto a completely new path. She melted into ashram life further pursuing yoga and turning her vocal talents to Indian classical music, kirtan, mantras and bhanajns. She studied with an Indian master learning harmonium and the classical Indian chants. She began leading kirtan at Anand Prakash Ashram, Tapovan, Rishikesh where she studied to be an advanced yoga instructor with her guru Yogi Vishvketu of the Akhanda method. She continued to lead kirtan when she moved her life to Sydney, Australia and then Byron Bay where she settled and with her husband Yogi Sadashiv - Nick Bradley set up a yoga studio Shiva Shakti Yoga - Yoga in Byron www.yogainbyron.com. Here she teaches yoga and combines asana practice with ancient Indian mantras. Often Yogi Sadashiv teaches whilst Radha sings the mantras and plays harmonium taking the practitioner deep within themselves to the vibrations of pure Sanskrit devotion, unlocking realms deep within. Radha Rani was given her name by Yogi Vishvketu and it means The Queen of Devotion - an affectionate name for the Goddess Radha. When she sings it is pure devotion.
