ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Rael is a rock band born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, during 1986. They played music from their fave groups like Pink Floyd, Marillion, King Crimson, Procol Harum, Genesis, performing at parties and schools. At some point they decided to cover exclusively Genesis pieces, especially those from the "Gabriel years". The group had a quick expansion and they performed in the most important theatres in Buenos Aires, and also at the "Obras Sanitarias" stadium considered the mecca of local rock. They also toured in Argentina and Chile.

In 1992 they produced "Mascaras Urbanas", a CD with their own compositions that was re-launched by Musea Records (France) in 1997, with very good international reviews. In 1993 they played as the opening act to Steve Hackett's and Rick Wakeman's concerts in Buenos Aires. in 2009 they released "Lineas Nuevas", also available on CD Baby.

Lineup:
Mario Perkins: guitars, drum programming, back vocals.
Horacio Pozzo: piano and keyboards, bass.
Daniel Rawsi: drums and back vocals.
Marcos Ribas: bass, guitar and back vocals.
Ignacio Rodriguez Genta: lead vocals.

PROG ARCHIVES reviews:

"As you might guess from their name, they're GENESIS- inspired band as Italian THE WATCH or Scottish CITIZEN CAIN, but RAEL has more sophisticated manner and Neo approach (think of MARILLION or GENESIS 74-78).Songs like "Shadows in Ixtlan" and "Escapando de mi Imaginacion"("Escaping from my Imagination" in 13/16 !) are the ones GENESIS never would made - unusually atmospheric and soundscapy. The best tracks here are "Icarus" (think of "lost" GENESIS masterpiece song circa "The Lamb...") and "Momo and the Grey Men" epic (a mix of "Forgotten Sons" and "The Musical Box"!). Extremely recommended for GENESIS-heads and Neo/Art/New Symphonic Prog devotees!"

"What happens when a band re-visits the spirit of a classic like GENESIS' "Lamb Lies Down" with emphasis on building on the creativity already started... is this progressive? As long as it sounds like RAEL then I say who cares. RAEL's "Mascaras Urbanas" is a fine piece of work very much in the spirit of classic GENESIS with some nice influenced musical moments. Songs are actually quite original with a few "borrowed" musical allusions throughout the album. Vocals are well done with most of the lyrics being sung convincingly in English. The instrumentation throughout "Mascaras Urbanas" is exceptional with a nice wide range of instruments."
