ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Life is a cycle of giving and receiving. Each generation gathers knowledge and experience from their predecessors. As they grow in age and experience, they pass that information on to the next generation. In the best circumstances the younger generation also influences the elder with enthusiasm, fresh perspective and even technology options. The experience of playing with Art Blakey as a Jazz Messenger in his 2 Drummer Big Band began for me in The Berklee Performance Center in 1983. It was easily one of the most transformative musical events in my life. It is written somewhere that “our gratitude speaks when we care and share with others…..” Thirty-Five years after that life changing opportunity, I have the chance to pass a similar experience on to these amazing young musicians. They humbled me with their hard work and dedication and I am very proud of what we have accomplished together in such a short time. This is the backdrop for the creation of this Big Band and this live recording. We think the music will speak for itself and sincerely hope you enjoy.
Thank You
RP
