Sāma Gāna Leela: Thillana Harmonised

by Ramya Thiyagarajan

The main melody and lyrics are Dr. BMK's thillana. I composed lines for two additional voices in the same raga, and added chittai swaram. The effect is a harmonised, choral rendition of Thillana, which still retains the underlying flavour of the piece.

ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
This is part of the idea "Sāma Gāna Leela". Sāma Gāna means unity of thought, sound and philosophies through music, and Leela refers to a playful spirit. The idea is to play with the aesthetics and modes of presentation of Carnatic music, while not diluting the underlying flavour that is filled with melodic and rhythmic intricacies finding its roots in spirituality.
