ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Randy Jacobs has been playing guitar since he was 13 years old. Growing up in Detroit inspired him to want be a performer and since has traveled the world sharing his music and talent. Along the way gracing such artists as Bonnie Raitt, BB King, Willie Nelson, Tears For Fears, Marcia Ball, Dr. Dre, Billy Preston, Bruce Hornsby, Ringo Starr, Warren Hill, Ofra Haza, Kris Kristopherson, Iggy Pop, Earl Klugh, Khaled, Paula Abdul, Commissioned, Chet Atkins, Diane Shurr, Michael McDonald, Elton John, Herbie Hancock, and Seal to name a few. Playing rock, country, pop and contemporary jazz.
At the tender age of 22, he co-wrote the top 10 R&B hit “Wide Receiver” with former Miles Davis bassist Michael Henderson and later co-wrote the worldwide pop smash “Walk the Dinosaur” as a member of the alternative Detroit group Was (Not Was.) After they disbanded, he became a member of Soul Mission (a gospel R&B project featuring Tata Vega, Mavis Staples, Booker T Jones and Steve Cropper) with one release for Sony/ Epic Records. In 1994 he formed his own outfit The Boneshakers finally projecting his vision of funk, blues, R&B, rock and soul into the universe. Releasing two CD’s, “Book of Spells” and “Shake the Planet” for Virgin Records. Two more followed, “Pouring Gasoline” and “Put Some Booty on It Live, Vol. 1” from his own Bad Monkey Recordings. More recently, in the last four years he has performed and/or recorded with some of the biggest names in the contemporary jazz scene, such as Jeff Golub, Warren Hill, Rick Braun, Euge Groove, Mindi Abair, Dave Koz, Michael Lington, Oleta Adams, Wayman Tisdale, Peter White and Marc Antoine among others.

Now he has kept his promise to his many friends and fans, finally recording “From Me To You” his first solo instrumental CD on his Bad Monkey Recordings label. With appearances from Mindy Abair, Andre Berry, Rick Braun, Euge Groove, Wendy Moten, Bob Sheppard and Wayman Tisdale, it is a stellar outing. Co-produced with long time friend, songwriter, keyboardist and programmer Jon Gilutin. “I had these songs for a while and felt now was the time to record and share them with my fans and friends” says Jacobs. Randy has created 11 tracks, showcasing his talents. Playing his acoustic guitar on romantic songs such as, the beautiful Mi Corazon, Mi Amour with Rick Braun playing flugelhorn, the sexy Extraordinary Lover, the bittersweet solo piece Tell Me Why, the powerful Never Over You with Jon Gilutin’s amazing piano playing and the plaintive Kisses For Miss Faye featuring Bob Shepard on soprano sax. Randy also keeps his trademark funk groove happening on electric guitar with songs like, Trixie, Get Down Off the Table! with Euge Groove on tenor sax. He trades licks with Wayman Tisdale on No More Rainy Days, and gets down and dirty on Ooo What She Does To Me with Mindy Abair on alto sax and shows his blues chops on the seductive title track with Wendy Moten’s beautiful voice joining the sweet guitar melody. Speaking of blues, check out his singing and playing on the interlude “Dobro Jones”. Jacobs ends his CD with the atmospheric “Emotional Moment ” sharing his love of indian and spiritual music.

“The greatest thing in my life, has been to work with and learn from so many different
people. I’ve tried to share those lessons with this CD”.
The title says it all “From Me To You”.
