Album Notes
"Canyon Whispers," the latest CD from Randy "Windtalker" Motz, is a soothing, 14-song musical journey through the Southwest, the majestic lands of the “Ancient Ones;” a land of breathtaking and magical landscapes. It is a place where Native history is still etched on every desert and mesa, and where the gentle whispers of a proud people still echo in every canyon. A raft trip on the Colorado River, through the Grand Canyon, and a trip to the Four Corners region indelibly etched memories into "Windtalker's" soul; memories that he wanted to capture in music. This CD is a tribute to those people, their heritage, and the land that they call home.

“Canyon Whispers” is a blend of the rich and hauntingly beautiful sound of Native American-style flute with lush orchestration, piano, guitar, cello, and Native percussion. Through songs like “Pueblo Bonito Silhouettes,” “Chaco Sunrise,” “Cliff Palace Serenade,” and “Taos Sunset,” the listener can envision these iconic cultural landmarks. The awe-inspiring landscapes that are the hallmarks of Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, and Colorado are captured in the melodies of “Zion Echoes,” “Grand Canyon Winds,” “Sedona Moon,” “Canyon Whispers,” and “Eagle’s Flight.” And the oftentimes mysterious, but always beautiful and spiritually grounded, traditions of the Native cultures are honored with songs such as “Kiva Dance,” “Ancient Ones,” “Earth Spirit Visions,” “Dream Catcher,” and “Forever Begins Today.”

"Canyon Whispers" is a must-have native flute album
Randy "Windtalker" Motz is a true master of the native American flute. And beyond his technical skills, there is a great depth and richness of emotion in his flute playing. The songs on his "Canyon Whispers" album have a soaring, ethereal quality to them that transports the listener to the canyon landscapes after which many of them are named. He makes excellent use of both backing tracks and nature sounds to complete the experience for the listener. Listening to his music makes me happy, relaxed and content. I am glad to recommend to anyone this majestic native American flute music created by my friend and colleague, "Windtalker."
