Album Notes
Conga : East Meets West was commissioned by the non-profit dance company Global Art and Culture Exchange Mai (Japan) to dance to at the Amami International Art Festival held annually in Amami, Japan. The instrumental version combines US style electric shred guitar with traditional Japanese instruments, Latin percussion and EDM drums.
Featured on this track is Niya Sasaki on shamisen, who is known for winning the title of #1 shamisen player in Japan. Sukeroku Taiko's Master, Yutake Imaizumi, famous in Japan, helped Ray with the taiko drum arrangement, also performing with his daughter, Hikaru Imaizumi. Koto is performed by Hiromi Kubo. The main body of the song was recorded in NY while the Japanese instruments were added in Hokkaido and Tokyo Japan. The video is available at the usual places and features pieces of the dance show choreographed by international dancer Miho Imoto. Arranged, produced & guitar'd by Ray DeTone.

Ray has composed, produced & performed on hundreds of songs that can be heard on MTV, Cinemax, Univision, RAI-TV Italy, Playgirl TV, ComedyNET, Handmade TV, AllRecipes.com and recently placed 2 songs in the Alec Baldwin/Danny Glover film “Back In The Day” . Ray also wrote/performed the song “Smile (Its A Brand New Day” ) for Quaker Oats Overnight Oats global TV ad campaign. As a writer, for the New York based Omni Music Library, Ray's compositions are used as Background Music in countless international ad campaigns. Ray also composed a Christmas song that played in san endless loop in the 2017 holiday Toys-R-Us pop-up store on Sixth Ave right next to Radio City Music Hall and in 2018 placed a song in the hit Cinemax show "Strike Back".

Ray is known for his eclectic compositions and playing styles; some of which include: Spanish Classical/Flamenco - (skated to by the 2007 World Champion Figure Skater, Caroline Zhang); World music from Arabia, Africa, France, Italy and China; Blues, Country, Rock, Rockabilly, New Age and Heavy Metal; New Orleans 2nd Line; Orchestral scores & Choir Arrangements; Comedy/Cartoon Music; Cinematic Themes in many styles with diverse instrumentation.

As a guitarist, producer and/or musical director Ray has toured/recorded/performed with such luminaries as: Grammy-Winning producer, Neil Dorfsman for the Japanese superstar, Himuro; Iron Maiden frontman, Paul Dianno; legendary Liverpool bassist/singer, Mark Clarke; the iconic Ronnie Spector; hit songwriter, Mark Mangold w. CBS recording artist “Drive, She Said”; In 2002, Ray was asked to “shred” a Jason Becker song on a benefit CD which also featured Steve Vai, and Marty Friedman. Ray has also guitar’d for over a hundred major Chinese pop stars and has been heard, if not seen, in the orchestra pit of "Jesus Christ, Superstar" & "Godspell". Ray also performed at NYC’s Carnegie Hall “Led Belly Fest” along side blues legends Buddy Guy, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Edgar Winter, Eric Burden, Walter Trout, Dana Fuchs & more
