Album Notes
Four unique mixes of the Ray Manzarek composition “America” which saw a very limited release in West Germany in 1978 (Ray Manzarek’s Nite City: “Golden Days Diamond Nights”) and has been out-of-print ever since. Remixed from the original 24 track master reels, these mixes showcase not only Ray’s keyboard talents, but also show Ray’s eternally optimistic views of America. As a special treat, Doors guitarist Robby Krieger contributes a new slide guitar track to one of the mixes.

"America" was originally written while Ray was on the road supporting his second solo album "The Whole Thing Started With Rock & Roll Now It's Out Of Control". From an interview at that time, Ray said "I love this country. We've been driving around America to all of our gigs on this tour, seeing wheat fields, corn fields, the amber waves of grain. When you fly, all you see are the insides of airports and hotels. This is a truly fantastic place to live. We have the opportunity to accomplish anything we can dream up. I've been working on a new song, an American song. I'd like to get a Walt Whitman vibe, an ode to this country type of lyric, explore the American Dream."

The song was finally recorded with his band "Nite City" in 1978.

• Golden Days Mix: This mix is similar to the original 1978 album version. Features Ray Manzarek, Jimmy Hunter, Nigel Harrison and Paul Warren.
• Diamond Nights Instrumental Mix: An instrumental version of the Golden Days Mix.
• Manzarek-Krieger Mix: This mix brings all of Rays piano, Hammond B3, Clavinet and vocals right to the front of the mix, plus Doors guitarist Robby Krieger contributes a new slide guitar track featured in the second half of the song. This is the official "single" for this release.
• Solo Piano Mix: As we were mixing this song we realized how incredibly beautiful Ray's piano track was throughout the entire song, and at times was totally buried in the mix. This is the complete piano track, with the background drums and bass bleeding into the track. If you listen closely you can hear Ray humming along.

• Ray Manzarek on keyboards and lead vocals.
• Jimmy Hunter on drums
• Nigel Harrison on bass
• Paul Warren on lead guitar.
