Album Notes
In the early '90's, Rebecca Coupe Franks made a strong impression with her two albums for the Justice label, 'Suit of Armor' and 'All of a Sudden' - which feature a host of well-known jazz greats such as Joe Henderson, Javon Jackson, Ben Riley and Leni Stern. Other recordings include Bill Cosby's 'My Appreciation' and Herb Ellis' 'Down Home Blues'.

Rebecca's compositions have earned her the title of being a leading innovator in jazz. From winning acclaim in the John Lennon International Song Writing Contest, to television shows (Melrose Place, Law and Order, Beverly Hills 90210) and film (Sundance Film Festival) using her original music, Rebecca's compositions are getting airtime in an increasing number of arenas.

Rebecca's latest release; 'Exhibition: Tribute to Joe Henderson' is a superb blend of her melodic and memorable compositions combined with her expressive and exciting trumpet playing - all written to honor Rebecca's friend and mentor, the late, great tenor saxophonist, Joe Henderson.

'Exhibition' features Sylvia Cuenca - drums, Essiet Okon Essiet - bass, Adam Schulman - piano, and Rebecca Coupe Franks - trumpet and compositions.

"Joe Henderson would have enjoyed hearing this program and would have loved playing these pieces. Rebecca Coupe Franks, who has mostly concentrated on writing music during the past few years, is poised to have a higher profile, performing new jazz while being inspired by the example of her mentor." -Scott Yanow (author of 8 jazz books including 'Trumpet Kings', 'Bebop' and 'Jazz on Record 1917-76'.)

A solid and worthy remembrance of Joe Henderson.
Well beyond a meditation on life and loss, the album reveals an understated soulfulness and emotional center within the music. Those seeking a jazz album that arrives at the point where jazz becomes something meaningful, an emotional connection, a form of communication, a celebration of ability and sound, would be wise to seek this one out. Highly recommended.

Very nice CD, inspiring to my high school stepdaughter trumpeter
This CD does indeed swing and sway nicely with great acoustic balance. A nice selection and positioning of material. An inspiration to my young jazz trumpeter stepdaughter, a great example of a woman who can blow horn with the best of them.

Wondered where Rebecca was. Glad I found her, again
Ten years ago I ran across Rebecca's first CD. I couldn't get over this Calif golden girl playing with the likes of Joe Henderson and not only holding her own but shining. Then for ten years there was a gap when I couldn't find anything by this. Now we have a mature Franks who if anything reminds me of Miles in his best days. Hope she sticks around this time. Let me tell you, Joe would have been proud of this tribute and he would be proud to have played with her.

One of the best in my jazz collection!
A great spectrum of jazz! Rain and Tears is a beautiful ballad. Los Palmos is one of the most original instrumental songs I've heard, with a really cool Spanish feel. Detroit Blues has a great funkin groove. Actually, I enjoy all of the songs... a must for long drives.

Swings Intensly and Sways Deliciously!
Those with more Jazz-acumen can no doubt provide a more verbose expose on the greatness of this work, and thus I will leave that to them and simply say that it's sensational -- just a real great listening experience!

I love the CD. The music is unbelievable. Detroit Blues has to be my favortite due to its flare and groove. So much talent & heart in the music. When you feel it you can almost feel what is being said...
